We are a community of believers dedicated to community transformation, one life at a time.
wHat makes wcc different?
We understand the things many people have against going to church, and we strive to remove those stumbling blocks so that you can see Jesus more clearly.
Things We Don't Do
Pass the offering plate
All offerings are given at 100% free will in an offering box located in the back of the sanctuary. In this way, people don't give out of pressure from peers or the pulpit. Giving should be done in the spirit of worship and gratitude. Pastors commonly fear that if appeals for money aren't regularly made, or if the offering plate isn't passed, the offerings will be less. We have proven this is not always the truth. When people believe in something, they want to support it, and they won't have to be reminded. In a very short time, we have been able to give thousands of dollars to projects like clean water, a human trafficking safe house, orphanages, community aid and more.
Receive a salary
We understand most pastors receive a salary from the offerings, and we want to be open to whatever God has for us in the future. But at this point in time, we feel a clear conviction to serve as volunteers. This frees us from the tyranny of numbers. Pastors whose livelihood is directly connected to attendance sometimes become insecure when the numbers go down; fewer people means less money. We pattern our ministry after the apostle Paul, who was a tent-maker, so that he would not be a financial burden to the church (I Thes. 2:9). Of course the benefit of full time ministry with a salary is that it frees pastors up to do more ministry during the week; for that reason we remain open to the will of God and counsel of others in this matter.
Require membership
We believe all Christians are already members of the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:25). The church is not a club to join. It is the expression of God's love to a world that needs Him. Our focus is on community transformation, not church growth.* We believe that real, healthy church growth happens naturally as a result of this kind of outward vision.
Assume or demand titles
Nothing against titles; it's just not our thing. We are "Dave and Faith," not Reverend, Pastor, or Your Lordship. This relieves us of the pressure to be someone we are not and can never be. We are human, prone to error. We want to be authentic in all our relationships, so that you feel safe approaching us. The sheep don't straggle up the hill to the shepherd; he seeks them out, willing to get dirty and even hurt in the process. Eliminating titles seems to help us keep that mindset as shepherds over God's precious flock.
Our Vision
In the building:
We like to keep it simple by focusing on the four elements of the first Christian church of Acts 2:42:
Teaching (Sunday morning sermons and midweek teaching with group discussion)
Fellowship (opportunity for relationship-building)
Breaking bread (through both taking Communion and eating together)
Prayer (including worship through song and music)
Outside the building:
Meeting with others through the week via small groups
Partnering with other churches and organizations in community outreach
Our Core Values
community ~ discipleship ~ authenticity and transparency ~ accountability ~ personal integrity ~ spiritual growth and maturity ~ unity with diversity ~ professionalism and excellence ~ room for trial and error ~ humility and teachability ~ gratitude expressed through giving ~ lay ministry ~ empowering others according to character and giftings ~ servanthood ~ missions ~ evangelism
