About Us

We are a community of believers dedicated to community transformation, one life at a time.

What You Can Expect at WCC

Casual dress

Come as you are. Feel free to dress down or dress up. Be yourself!

A relaxed atmosphere
There are no "stand up-sit down" type rules. Just make yourself at home in God's presence as we worship Him together. If you need to bring a pillow or special chair, please feel free to do so.

Fellowship
That's a fancy word for "we want to get to know you!" Try to arrive one hour early each Sunday for free coffee, bagels, muffins, fresh fruit, and donuts in our breakfast "café." Wednesday evening Bible study offers plenty of time for group interaction as well. We have lunch together most Sundays! (Check the lunch schedule on the home page.) We encourage everyone to stay after the service and join us for lunch. We strongly believe a church is built on relationships and we will do everything we can to foster those opportunities.
Family friendliness
Kids up to age 12 can go to Kids' Church for a Bible lesson and craft, or stay in the adult service and take notes with our "My Sermon Notes" worksheet designed just for kids! We offer a prize for kids who complete this worksheet.

We have two types of nurseries: a traditional nursery for babies 0-3 years of age, and an "open nursery" in the sanctuary
--an area off to the side that allows nursing moms and quiet little ones to be part of the worship service.

Freedom of expression in worship
God is alive and well, and we are excited about that! We show it in the raising and clapping of hands, and in our contemporary style of music, which includes modern choruses as well as lyrically-rich hymns. At times we may even dance, or lift our voices and offer spontaneous prayers from the congregation. We want our worship to be sincere and God-honoring while being relevant enough to draw others toward (not away from) Jesus.

We also welcome and encourage the "Gifts of the Spirit" as described in I Corinthians 14, Acts 2, Joel 2 (for example). We believe God's voice is not limited to the person in the pulpit, but that He desires to speak through every believer. Therefore, you may hear individuals in the congregation offer spontaneous words of "exhortation" (encouragement), prayers, scriptures, or prophetic utterances. This may seem strange, especially when messages are spoken in the first person, as if by God Himself (which happens on rare occasion, depending on the denomination/background/style of the person speaking). We encourage an openness to the "things of the Spirit" and study of the Scriptures to verify that these practices were indeed a part of the early church.

Our Visions/Values

We understand the things many people have against going to church, and we strive to remove those stumbling blocks so that you can see Jesus more clearly.

Things We Don't Do

We don't pass the offering plate
All offerings are given at 100% free will in an offering box located in the back of the sanctuary.  This way, people don't give out of pressure from peers or the pulpit. Giving should be done in the spirit of worship and gratitude.

Pastors commonly fear that if appeals for money aren't regularly made, or if the offering plate isn't passed, the offerings will be less. We have proven this is not always the truth. When people believe in something, they want to support it, and they won't have to be reminded. In a very short time, we have been able to give thousands of dollars to projects like clean water, a human trafficking safe house, orphanages, community aid, and more.

We don't receive a salary
We understand most pastors receive a salary from the offerings, and we want to be open to whatever God has for us in the future. But right now, we feel a clear conviction to serve as volunteers. This frees us from the tyranny of numbers. Pastors whose livelihood is directly connected to attendance sometimes become insecure when the numbers go down; fewer people means less money.

We pattern our ministry after the apostle Paul, who was a tent-maker, so that he would not be a financial burden to the church (I Thes. 2:9). Of course, the benefit of full-time ministry with a salary is that it frees pastors up to do more ministry during the week; for that reason, we remain open to the will of God and counsel of others in this matter.

We don't require membership
We believe all Christians are already members of the Body of Christ (Ephesians 4:25). The church is not a club to join. It is the expression of God's love to a world that needs Him. Our focus is on community transformation, not church growth. We believe that real, healthy church growth happens naturally as a result of this kind of outward vision.

We don't assume or demand titles
Nothing against titles; it's just not our thing. We are "Dave and Faith," not Reverend, Pastor, or Your Lordship. This relieves us of the pressure to be someone we are not and can never be. We are human, prone to error. We want to be authentic in all our relationships, so that you feel safe approaching us. The sheep don't straggle up the hill to the shepherd; he seeks them out, willing to get dirty and even hurt in the process. Eliminating titles seems to help us keep that mindset as shepherds over God's precious flock.

Our Vision

In the building:
We like to keep it simple by focusing on the four elements of the first Christian church of Acts 2:42:
Teaching (Sunday morning sermons and midweek teaching with group discussion)

Fellowship (opportunity for relationship-building)
Breaking bread (through both taking Communion and eating together)

Prayer (including worship through song and music)

Outside the building:
Meeting with others through the week via small groups and individual visits
Partnering with other churches and organizations in community outreach
